Outside of academics, a long-time passion of mine has been aerial photography.

I use it not only as a way of tracking my travels (although that is a large part of it), but also as a means of looking at things from a different angle. Many people will never have the opportunity to look upon the steeple of a Russian Orthodox church, or gaze upon the jagged edges of a California cliff from the ocean. Similarly, not many people will have the opportunity to live in Russia for 13 years, or have family spread out across 3 continents.

I carry this unique perspective with me, as a symbol that viewing even the most simple problems can have multitudes of angles with each one showing something different.
